Mesothelioma Attorneys Recover High Amounts Of Money For Injured Workers

For years people were being subjected to asbestos exposure not knowing the impact htat asbestos would have on their health. Exposure to asbestos causes lethal illnesses including lung cancer, mesothelioma, and asbestosis. As a result of exposure to asbestos, asbestos related litigation and mesothelioma law suits have been one hard challenge to address. The Congress has attempted to address relevant lawsuits in the past few years, but has been unable to reach compromise between the two sides.

Asbestos related lawsuits have been widely criticized, questioning the number of people filing asbestos and mesothelioma related lawsuits, since asbestos has not been used since the 1970s. However, the exposure to asbestos has long periods between the actual exposure occurrence and the consequences that occur much later in life. Additionally, workers who have been exposed to asbestos brought the substance home on their shoes and clothes, causing their families and children to be exposed to asbestos as well as the worker himself.

The symptoms of asbestos related illness are following:

Difficulty breathing
Consistent and prolog cough
Coughing up blood
Chest pain
Difficulty swallowing
Swelling of the neck or face
Appetite loss
Weight loss
Anemia
Fever

According to a RAND Institute studies, there are now over 300,000 asbestos related lawsuits pending, alleging illness and death as a result of exposure to asbestos.

Mesothelioma is a common cause for a lawsuit related to asbestos exposure. Many companies have been hit by asbestos lawsuits whereas jury verdicts reach millions of dollars.

Mesothelioma is a type of lung cancer that is resulted in continuing exposure to asbestos. Although the symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear immediately, and in most cases take five to fifteen years to appear, the prognosis for the development of mesothelioma cancer is usually one year that a patient diagnosed with mesothelioma will live.

On September 2, 2008, a Jury deciding the verdict on the mesothelioma case filled in San Francisco on behalf of an injured worker Douglas “Duke” Vanden Broek who suffered from mesothelioma, awarded the plaintiff’s family $2,6 Million. The trial started on August 14, 2008 at the San Francisco Superior Court. The jury decided that since the plaintiff was a heavy smoker, the defendant, Plant Insulation Company was 5% responsible for the illness that caused death of the injured worker. The plaintiff’s family was represented a Novato prominent law firm Brayton & Purcell.
